The Miami Springs Centennial Time Capsule will be created as a permanent community legacy project in celebration of the City’s 100th anniversary. Its purpose is to preserve the stories, voices, and spirit of Miami Springs during its Centennial year, capturing a snapshot of life today for the residents who will call this place home tomorrow.

The time capsule itself will be a professionally manufactured, archival-quality capsule selected specifically for long-term preservation. Its materials, construction, and sealing method are being chosen using best practices recommended by the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute. Their conservation guidance has helped inform what should be included, how materials should be prepared, and how environmental conditions can be mitigated over time—helping ensure the contents remain protected and intact for the full 50-year duration.

The capsule will be securely buried in a reinforced concrete vault at Circle Park, located at 100 Curtiss Parkway, a prominent and publicly accessible space in the heart of Miami Springs. The site will be permanently marked with a commemorative plaque that clearly identifies the capsule’s location and purpose. This marker will stand as a visible reminder of the Centennial celebration and the community’s shared commitment to preserving its history until the capsule is unearthed in 2076.

The Time Capsule will purchased from Heritage Capsules.
Custom Capsule Dimensions: 32" L × 24" W × 24" H

Ai render of what the Time Capsule Vault will look like.

Fifty years from now, when this capsule is opened, it will serve as a direct connection between this Centennial year and a future generation. It will show them what mattered to us, what we celebrated, and how we came together as a community during this historic moment.

To ensure this legacy is responsibly preserved and meaningfully shared, the Miami Springs Historical Society & Museum will serve as the steward and beneficiary of my Eagle Scout service project. Their role will be to safeguard and reveal its contents at the appropriate time, and help share that story with future residents.
